The Election Post

As the election draws near, polarization of our country continues. Will one candidate be better suited to to bridge the gap and repair the damages from the election after they win.

Rock the Vote

This year is an important election year in the United States, as everyone not living under a rock can attest to. I cast my ballot early this year; one vote for change in the only liberal city in Texas. Given the vast Republican stronghold that is Texas, it is no doubt that McCain will win the 34 electoral votes up for grabs, but it is increasingly looking like a blowout for Obama. Let's hope Dems and Independents don't count their chicks too soon, as the polls may give them false sense of safety and they may just forget to vote.

Gunsight Mountain

I traveled to Alaska in early September and wanted to share a picture as to the difference between my trip in August and my trip in September.

Guess which one was later? August 22 vs. Sept 15

40 cement trucks, alcohol, flights on 9/12 and corrupt police officers

40 or 50 cement trucks will draw your attention if they drive down the road on the slow Saturday night. That's what happened on the day before September 11, 2001 in Crawford Texas.

Not a lot of people talk or blog about it, but, that's because most of the people in Crawford are simple folk. Blogs, news media and the leading candidates for an election 18 months away is far from their simple minds. But, on their simple minds are the 40+ trucks that left the Crawford Compound pre-9/11 and were reportedly seen by numerous eyewitnesses in the town.

On another occasion it was reported that during G.W.'s term as Gov. of Texas, some time restaurants of the Governor were stripped of all alcoholic bevorages in order to accomodate the alcoholic president that we have today. apparently G.W. can't have any one else around him enjoying a fine bev unless he is as well.

This was during his Governorship of Texas, so you can only imagine what kind of pain in the bung hole he is while he's been prez. Oh, he an Vlad are probably doing jus find don'tcha know. Kissing babies and wondering what kind of crazy wars to get us into next...

Poker Superstar

Since moving to Austin I've played in quite few free poker games in order to meet people. It's worked out well and I've had a lot of fun. I banter with some of the regulars and have enjoyed meeting so many people in such a short period of time.

I found a new game a few weeks ago at Third Base. It's a neat bar and about 80+ people play on Monday Tuesday or Thursday night. I decided to catch the late game tonight which started at 10PM.

About 80 people showed up because they raised the cash prize to $100.

I played well in the beginning, making some plays and outplaying my opponents. I would say I caught some cards, but I played well. I changed my style from uber conservative to unpredictable and slightly reckless. Okay, not that reckless, but reckless enough to bluff with 7 2 or play with J 2.

I beat out all 80 people to win the $100 cash prize. I ate and drank for free, and still have some cash for the weekend. Not a bad two hours.

It's so sad, it's funny

I try to watch George W. Bush to see what the leader of the country has to say, and I have to turn off the TV or Internet video after .5 seconds. I literally never make it past five seconds with this guy (our PrezEdent). I've had to read the State of the Union addresses in order to discuss with friends.

I'm going to try and make the effort because the immigration issue is important to me. But, I've tried twice already, and I just can't make it past 'rhetoric'

Good Question

When I lived in New York, I always looked forward to Tuesday and the release of the New York Press. Arguably one of the few remaining truly independent news sources in the country, it was a privilege to get it free every week.

I looked forward to one writer in particular: Matt Taibbi.

His most recent piece was a question/answer style response to readers' questions.

My favorite:

4) If you could ask George W. Bush one question and be actually guaranteed an honest answer, what would you ask him?

- Tyler Bass

4) As for Bush, the question I always wanted to ask him was if he thought Muslims automatically went to hell after death. I think that would be an interesting question because there's no way for him to answer it without pissing off one or the other group of lunatics.
